Profesor Titular
UPC - Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya

(BE’95, PhD’00) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Signal Theory and Communications from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain. He obtained his PhD degree in the field of “physical methods for remote sensing” at the Service d’Aéronomie from the Institut Pierre-Simon-Laplace in Paris, France. After a short stay in 2001 at the Centre d'Applications et de Recherches en Télédétection from the University of Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke, Canada, he joined the UPC with a European Space Agency external fellowship grant in 2002 and followed on with a Ramón-y-Cajal Spanish contract in 2004.

His main research interests are twofold: (i) on a technical point of view, the development of lidar techniques and instruments in all their aspects for aerosol observations, and (ii) the characterization of aerosol properties and of their impact on the atmospheric radiative budget. The latter includes aerosol optical and microphysical characterization, and aerosol typing thanks to data fusion (in-situ, remote sensing, satellite) and modeling.

He is coordinator of the Spanish/Portuguese lidar network, SPALINET, and the Spanish contact point of the international project ChArMEx (Chemistry-Aerosol Mediterranean Experiment). He has published more than 65 papers in peer-reviewed journals and made more than 120 international conference presentations/posters.
